Punjab Sikh Heritage Journey

Amritsar → Tarn Taran → Goindwal Sahib → Khadur Sahib → Anandpur Sahib → Fatehgarh Sahib → Chamkaur Sahib → Chandigarh

Take your parents beyond the Golden Temple.

See the places where the Sikh story unfolded, with comfortable hotels, private transport and a historian who explains what you're actually seeing.

A 6-night, 7-day route built to be walked through in the order Sikh history actually happened, with three full days given to Amritsar alone before the road heads out to Tarn Taran, Goindwal Sahib, Khadur Sahib, Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib, Chamkaur Sahib, and Chandigarh. A local Sikh historian accompanies the Amritsar days for storytelling and context beyond what's on a plaque — this is our most immersive Sikh heritage journey, less a sightseeing trip than a chronological walk through the story itself.

per person, excluding GST.

The plan

Day by day

  1. 1Arrive in Amritsar
    • Arrive in Amritsar and check in.
    • Evening visit to the Golden Temple for your first darshan — the sanctum illuminated and reflected in the sarovar after dark.
    • Evenings are slightly cooler and calmer than midday.

Pace: Gentle — mostly walking on the flat marble parikrama.

  2. 2Immersed in the Golden Temple
    • Pre-dawn start for Amrit Vela and the Palki Sahib procession.
    • A full day exploring the complex with your historian-guide.
    • Sri Akal Takht Sahib, facing the sanctum across the parikrama.
    • The twin Ramgarhia Bunga towers and the Central Sikh Museum.
    • Join the langar hall for a meal — served to thousands of visitors regardless of faith or background.
    • Evening at Sadda Pind — a recreated Punjabi village with folk performances and a village-style thali dinner.

Pace: Gentle, self-paced — spend as much or as little time as your group prefers.

  3. 3Amritsar's wider story
    • Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji, marking where the elderly warrior-scholar fell defending the temple in 1757.
    • The Partition Museum, the world's first dedicated to 1947's Partition, in Amritsar's old Town Hall.
    • Afternoon at Gobindgarh Fort — Maharaja Ranjit Singh's armoury and mint, with a sound-and-light show.
    • Shopping at Hall Bazaar for phulkari dupattas, Punjabi juttis, and dry fruits.
    • Evening food walk through the old city for Amritsari kulcha and lassi.

Pace: Gentle — flat walking across all five stops, spread comfortably through the day.

  4. 4Tarn Taran, Goindwal Sahib & Khadur Sahib
    • Tarn Taran Sahib, built by the fifth Guru around the largest sarovar of any gurdwara anywhere.
    • Goindwal Sahib, where the third Guru built a baoli of 84 steps for pilgrims.
    • Khadur Sahib, home to the second Guru, Guru Angad Dev, who standardised the Gurmukhi script.
    • Continue on toward Anandpur Sahib in the evening.

Pace: Longer travel day covering three stops; each site itself is a short, flat visit.

  5. 5Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib & Chamkaur Sahib
    • Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, where Guru Gobind Singh initiated the first five Sikhs on Baisakhi in 1699.
    • The Virasat-e-Khalsa museum — a striking modern building with fully accessible, air-conditioned galleries.
    • Fatehgarh Sahib in Sirhind, where Guru Gobind Singh's two youngest sons and their grandmother were martyred in 1705.
    • Chamkaur Sahib, where his two elder sons died defending a small mud fortress against a much larger Mughal force.
    • Continue on to Chandigarh in the evening.

Pace: The fullest day on this itinerary — four significant stops between Anandpur Sahib and Chandigarh, each flat and manageable, tracing some of the most moving chapters in Sikh history.

  6. 6A day in Chandigarh
    • Morning at Sukhna Lake — a boat ride or a walk along the promenade against the Shivalik foothills.
    • The Rock Garden, Nek Chand's surreal sculpture garden built entirely from industrial and household waste.
    • The Capitol Complex — Le Corbusier's Open Hand, Assembly, and High Court, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    • Evening at Sector 17 Plaza for shopping and dinner — a lighter, mainstream close to the trip.

Pace: Gentle — a full but relaxed day, mostly flat walking across lakeside paths, gardens, and plazas.

  7. 7Checkout & departure
    • A relaxed morning to pack and check out.
    • Head to the airport or railway station for departure.

Pace: Very gentle, no fixed sightseeing.
